Camera Critters: The Wounded Buck Recovers

I have had a lifelong fascination with whitetail deer and at times it seems that the only subjects I photograph are deer and elk. As a result today's Camera Critters photos are of whitetail deer.

Deer feed by grazing on grasses, or browsing on plant growth such as trees, shrubs and vines.
It is often to get a pleasing photographic composition of a deer while it is eating. Lets face it, a deer with its head buried in tall grass is not the greatest photographic subject.

Buck Browses On Unknown Species Of Vine

The wounded buck, featured in the post of October 5th, "Vanishing Bucks-Natural Dispersal Or Criminal Act", is recovering from his injury. Deer are social animals and the second photo for today shows he and his older sister "grooming". I frequently witness deer doing this and it seems to be a combination of nibbling and licking at the others coat. I have speculated that the nibbling is sometimes removing ticks from the other animal.

    WONDERFUL news!! We were worried about him. Thanks for keeping an eye on him. I'm sure you are also glad that your buddy is recovering. I hope people will leave him alone and he can have a safe and healthy life.

    Sweet photo! Glad to hear the wounded buck is doing better. That original photo is still in my head. It really effected me.

    With excellent shots as this we don't mind one bit that it's deer or elk.
    This guy has a nice set of antlers and I like how I'm almost looking into his eyes.
    The second shot is a nice hug. :)

    It's good that he is recovering. He's a beautiful animal. Great picture of the mutual grooming. Horses do that all of the time too, usually to scratch each other's withers and backs.

    Willard beautiful photographs as always. I think I could live with only photographying elk and whitetail, they are two of Gods better creatures. These are both superb closeups of buck that I would love to get anyday.
