No Two Fawns Look Alike!

In my experience, if one is able to observe an extended family group of whitetail deer on a regular basis, it is possible to learn to identify individual deer. It is as though the veil is lifted from ones eyes and they are able to see the differences in features that distinguish individual animals, rather than the similarities that many cause one at first glance to say that all fawns look alike, or that all does look alike, when in fact they do not!

This photograph was taken on the evening of June 29th. Compare it to the photo in the previous post, and note the difference in the facial features of the two deer. It is quite striking when one looks closely!

Canon 40-D: 100-400mm at 400mm 1/125 f6.7 ISO 400

This evening four fawns came to the meadow. Of course I am without a DSLR at present, but I had the superb Canon XL-H1 Camcorder and concentrated on filming the little animals as they flitted about the meadow. It was overcast and likely would not have made good still photographs anyway. In addition the fawns were so active with their running about and playing that it was hard to get good video segments of them and good still photography would have been even more difficult.

Very cute. If I am not mistaken the fawn in this post has a more narrow head than the other fawn as well as many other differences I am sure.

Beautiful anyway. They do look different.

Interesting. I think the more we pay attention to anything, the more it's uniqueness becomes clear. I'm still praying for you to get your camera back soon.

Hi Willard,

First, thank you for taking the time to visit my blog and for your neat comment there. I appreciate it.

Then there is this little animal who looks for all the world like he has a skull cap on or has a modern Mohawk haircut. And when you take the time to look at him or her, he is really a unique animal just as you say. I hope his future is bright.

What in the world happened to your camera? Did you order a new one or is something wrong with the old one. I don't know what I would do if something happened to any of my cameras but then it doesn't matter on the point and shoot but the others would upset me.

Thanks again.

I left this comment under your comment on my blog but came here and will post it here too.

Hello Willard,

Yes, the new SXi takes a different battery with a kind of tongue on the end. It lasts longer. I bought an extra so I always have one on hand. The remote release I use is the infra red but have not used it on this one but did or do on the XTi model. The memory cards are tiny and the one I got holds 8GB and that was the largest then but now it is more.

I am sorry, Willard, that you have problems with the Canon and had to send it back but that is the place to get it fixed properly.

I would go nuts without my cameras. I can get by with one or the other but without any would be more than I can cope with.

I did order a new lens but not a Canon. This is a Sigma because I can afford it and the same in Canon is more than I want to spend. LOL

Thanks for your visits and comments.
