Wildlife Faces Winter

Even though it is not officialy winter, the temperatures are quite frigid and until recently there was a light covering of snow in our area. As winter arrives, wildlife faces a struggle to survive.
In severe instances there may be a large amount of winter mortality in the whitetail deer herd, but most recent winters have been relatively mild.

Dove Basks In Warm Rays Of Afternoon Sun

Birds and animals make the most of situations which make survival easier and spend as much time as possible in sunlit areas that are sheltered from the wind.

Yes, Willard, the winter-like weather is setting in these days. The cold weather can make us photographers lazy and remain indoors. I am glad you are getting out to capture the beauty of nature in these cold days. Great job!

Great photos. I always think about the Wildlife when the weather is so cold. Someone may laugh at this comment but I will say it anyway. I always send up prayers for them. Helen

It even looks cold up there and that dove must have spotted you or heard something.

You always have such spectacular photos. I like how the shite snow echos the white belley of the deer, perfect composition!

We haven't had much of a winter yet and no frozen precipitation of any type -- but it will happen. The food supply for some of the critters is a little short through due to an ill-timed freeze last spring.

I always love seeing your beautiful captures. :) :) I am always amazed since I have tried birds and deer while on the mainland and didnt come up with anything nearly as spectacular. :)
Have a wonderful Holiday Week.
Aloha
Renee :)
