While processing some whitetail deer photos from last summer I came across an unusual shot.
I don't know what the deer on the left reacted to. Flies harass them severely in warm weather and it may have been shaking its ears, etc. to frighten them off or it may have been reacting to the other doe trying to lick her face.
Whatever the reason for the expression, It made for a humorous shot, as these graceful animals seldom look so grotesque!

Willard, I am guessing the one is trying to detect where that "smell" is coming from. And the one ear looks to be gone or is it laid back? I hope just laid back. If not then that might be what the other is smelling -- where the ear was.
Don't forget...I posted the link to read about Charley over at my brookville blog.
Looks like it's winking. Cute!
Abe,
It was just laid back.
Besides dogs, deer are my favorite animals, so I truly love your blog and photos ;-) This is quite the unique capture here!
That's a unique shot - and I love the introduction to the shot as well.
Ah great shot Willard.
my guess is _ Give us a kiss lover girl.
A great capture for sure.. if you had wanted to get an unusual shot it might have taken you weeks...
Cute one Willard!
Photographs can catch some unusual and unbecoming poses in man & animals alike :)
lol... strange - it looks like the one on the left only has one ear!
Nice shot. I gave you the "You make my day" award with your blog. See my site of todays post for details. Please pass it on.
Oh, I think these too are SOOOO cute! Maybe one has an itch and the other one was trying to scratch it :)
maybe one had a different perfume on ;)
Love the shot, Willard. I come by way of Salty's blog.

Willard,
These ladies remind me of two old-maid aunts who used to haunt family events. One always looked like she couldn't believe what the other just said and really wished she hadn't have said anything at all!
The color and texture of the does' ears is very beautiful. So much grace and power in those bodies, too.
A rare shot of a Central Pennsylvania One-Eared One-Eyed Deer ... excellent!
